Inspiring Purpose

Never Such Innocence Competition

One piece of feedback that we had heard a number of times last year with the WWI Inspiring Purpose poster was, “What if pupils wrote their own war poem instead of choosing one?”

We thought this was a great idea. Inspire Aspire’s programmes always encourage pupils to get creative – many included drawings and other creative touches in their posters. So, when we heard about Never Such Innocenceand their competitions we were delighted!

Never Such Innocence holds a poem and artwork competition for 9 to 16 year olds across the country. Pieces must be inspired by the First World War, and there are a variety of resources for classrooms and pupils!

The closing date for entries is the 25th March, and there are a whole host of prizes for lucky winners, and every child that enters receives a certificate signed by the Duke of Westminster!

Never Such Innocence are having a very special Glasgow launch of their Scottish competition on the 10th February and are offering youngsters who have written the most inspiring poetry to come along and read it!

The resource handbook features cartoons, characters and art to make it interesting and engaging for pupils, whilst providing a thorough and full-packed guide to inspirational WWI figures, jobs and conditions during the war and propaganda and more. Packs are available for free or you can download a copy on their website here.
