T.E. Lawrence

T.E. Lawrence – Soldier/ Lawrence of Arabia - Story. T.E. Lawrence led the revolt against the Ottoman Empired in WWI by fully disguising/immersing himself in the Arabic culture. He could speak French, German, Latin, Greek, Arabic, Turkis and Syriac. He led and won the Arab revolt against the empire in 1916/1917. After the war Lawrence continued to fight British superiors for the freedom and independence of the Arab states. He was also a famous and important writer. He published the “Seven Pillars of Wisdom” which recounted his experience of the war. He has a bronze bust in the crypt of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Pupils could also use the story “Lawrence of Arabia” the 1962 film that portrayed Lawrence’s time during the war, focusing on the attacks on Aqaba and Damacus whilst also portraying Lawrence’s personal struggles with violence and identity during the war.
